This plant was introduced to the United states in the 1860’s as an ornamental plant, and was also used as rootstock for rose programs for breeding, and was used by the USDA Soil Conservation Service as erosion control(14).

Area

The Multiflora rose is all over the united states, including Illinois. The Multiflora rose is all over the united states(14). It is all over the eastern united states, the midwest, all the way down into the southern states(14). Scattered populations also occur in California and Oregon as well(14).

The damage the can cause

The multiflora rose poses many problems to the native flora around it. Like the Japanese Honeysuckle, this plant grows incredibly fast, and chokes out native flora and stripe the ability for plants growth underneath(13). It also creates itself as a living fence and restrains movement of plants(13).
